I recently watched a YouTube video of this petite, little girl who was encouraging herself to have a great day. At most, she was 36 inches tall. She climbed up on the kitchen sink, looked at herself, and made several declarations. She declared that she liked her parents and her siblings, and she liked her house, her elephants, and her whole life. Then the little girl crawled back down off the sink, ran out of the bathroom, and ran back the hall towards the rest of her day.Recently, I have had an issue with spilling milk. It can get really frustrating, because milk has to be one of the worst beverages to spill! It's just icky, and it spoils, but I can tell you that in the past month or so, I have spilled many glasses of milk. Most times it happens in the morning, when I'm trying to leave! You can't just let it dry like you could if it was water, so you have to take the time to thoroughly clean everything affected by the spill. There have been many days that I have quite literally wanted to cry over spilled milk! I even mope about it all day long, telling people what an awful day I'm having.Sometimes, it's easy to let the events of your day ruin the outlook you have. That doesn't have to be the case. Did you know that by simply speaking out the positive, you can overcome your feelings and even your life long attitude? In the book of James Chapter 3, there is a strong teaching on the tongue. It even says that the tongue has the ability to speak blessings and curses, life and death. Creflo Dollar, a well known speaker and teacher, has a flow chart of the power of our words. He goes as far to say that words will ultimately bring you to your destiny. Many of you have probably heard the old adage: "For want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the horse was lost. For want of a horse, the rider was lost. For want of a rider, the battle was lost. For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost. For want of a nail, the kingdom was lost." This is the premise of Creflo's flow chart, which is paraphrased like this: words produce thinking - thinking produces attitude - attitude produces decisions - decisions produce actions - actions produce habits - habits produce character - character will bring you to your Destiny. In summing this up, words (good or bad) will bring you to your Destiny.I believe the trick to having a right attitude starts with your words. So many people walk around speaking death and curses into their lives, when they could be speaking life and blessings into their lives. People (by nature, I think) are inclined to walk around sharing their woes with one another. That however, isn't truly helpful at all.I encourage you to adhere to your mother's or teacher's words, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. However, don't just apply that nugget of wisdom from your elders to what you say about others, but to what you say about yourself and your Destiny. In his book Center of the Universe, Bill Johnson shares with us some of the moments that made him want to cry, and some of the moments that made him want to laugh. It is fun to read along and share some of his more memorable life experiences and a good reminder that no matter whom you are and what you do, you will have some good days and you will have some bad days. What makes the difference is what you decide to do with them!
